Restaurants – The St Ives area is known as one of the best parts of the country to eat out, try any of our suggestions below, you won’t be disappointed - we know, we have tried them all!

Porthminster Beach Café. Now world famous, and an inspiration to many of today’s well known ‘celebrity chefs’. A special treat. Gets busy, so booking essential. Lunch is cheaper. Open all year. 01736 795353 www.porthminstercafe.co.uk

Porthminster Kitchen Run by the same team as Porthminser Beach Cafe. Open all day, and serving modern British food with a distictly Cornish accent. We ate there a week after it opened, and had a terrific meal. On the first floor, overlooking the harbour, with a small terrace. If you want something a little special, but less expensive than it's big brother, definitely worth a visit. 01736 799874 www.porthminster.kitchen

Seafood Café Choose your own food from the display, and have it cooked as you like it; always busy with locals and visitors alike. Open all year. 01736 794004 www.seafoodcafe.co.uk

Porthgwidden Beach Café. Porthminster’s baby sister, great food, and less expensive. Good coffee and cream teas overlooking Porthgwidden beach. Large covered terrace where you can take your dog. Open all year. 01736 796791 www.porthgwiddencafe.co.uk

The Balancing Eel. A fish and chip shop by the Sloop car park. Get them and sit on the harbour wall – but watch out for the seagulls!

Porthmeor Beach Café. Overlooking Porthmeor beach. One of our favourites, we almost live there when we are here. They serve inspirational food, at reasonable prices, in a matchless location. Great for breakfast, lunch or dinner. You need to book for dinner, and now open all year!. 01736 793366 www.porthmeor-beach.co.uk

West Beach, Porthmeor At the Western end of Porthmeor, normally open from May until the beginning of September only. Run by Porthmeor Beach Cafe, serving Paninis, snacks, and fantastic sourdough Pizza. It's where the locals go, and they often have music at weekends, and sometimes even Cinema on the Beach - Amazing! Above is the independently run Fish shed, also fabulous.

The Fire House. Very lively bar downstairs, and a good restaurant upstairs, serving good quality Fish, burgers, pasta, steaks, green curry, and daily specials, in modern surroundings at reasonable prices. Has had good reviews. Open all year. 01736 799664 www.firehousestives.co.uk

Rum and Crab Shack On the Wharf; always popular. www.rumandcrabshack.com

The Sloop. We like the public bar to the right, with the communal tables and Segal drawings on the walls 01736 796584 www.sloop-inn.co.uk

Harbour Fish and Chips. Wharf road, just by the lifeboat. Definitely gourmet fish and chips, and great value (have the pea fritters) 01736 799295 www.harbourfishandchips.co.uk

Blas Burger Bar. Probably the best burgers in Britain - they also do a brilliant rotisserie. That’s not just our opinion – Daily Telegraph, Trip Advisor, Good Food Guide. A must for burger fans, and they do veggies! We think it is brilliant! (Check out their pub as well, the Halsetown Inn). No booking, and you sit on communal tables. The only Burger bar in the UK to be in the Good Food Guide for 13 consecutive years. McDonalds it's not, - nor are the prices! Currently takeaway only. Closed Nov – Feb half term. 01736 797272 www.blasburgerworks.co.uk

The Loft. Situated in old net lofts above the Sloop craft market; the covered terrace is a good place to have lunch. 01736 794204 www.theloftrestaurantandterrace.co.uk

Cafe Pasta On the Wharf, and as popular as ever. www.caffepasta.co.uk 01736 798899

Yellow Canary In Fore Street, an excellent cafe serving delicious pastries, teas and coffees.

Yallah On the Wharf, next to The Rum and Crab Shack. Great coffee takeaway, and lovely vegetarian / vegan cafe upstairs.

The Pubs! As you might expect, there are quite a few to choose from. The Queens, www.queenshotelstives.com has a good name for food, and has regular live music nights, The Lifeboat Inn, on the Wharf, is the place to go if you are missing your Sky Sport, also regular live music nights and more traditional pub food. The Union Inn on Fore Street is always very popular with locals. Often with live music, good pub food, and just down the road from Number Six. www.unioninn-stives.co.uk. The Hub, on the wharf, is popular with the younger crowd. Burgers, Hot Dogs, and craft beers. www.hub-stives.co.uk. The Castle Inn in Fore Street often has live music, and serves speciality pies, great beer, and a huge selection of Gins. A proper pub!
